|Benefit They're Real! sample size from ELLE magazine. Full size £19.50|
I recently got a sample size of Benefit's They're Real! mascara in ELLE magazine, and I couldn't wait to try it out as this is fast becoming the must-have mascara among bloggers and youtubers! It claims to lengthen, curl, volumize and separate...sounds perfect really so my hopes were high!
The brush is plastic as opposed to a traditional bristle brush which I usually prefer, however I actually really like the brush on this. Somehow it manages to grip the lashes well which plastic brushes aren't usually able to do. The advantage of a plastic brush in my opinion is that they don't clump the lashes as much as a bristle brush can. It also has a little domed bit at the end which is great for adding more product to single lashes, however this can get quite clogged with product so I wouldn't use this for the finer lashes near the inner corner of the eye, I find it the best for the outer corner lashes to create a more winged shape.
This mascara separates really well. I tend to prefer longer, separated lashes to the thick, voluminous kind, and although you can create this look with this mascara, I like to work with it to separate instead. It builds up quite nicely, but will only take so many coats before it dries and starts becoming clumpy. The formula is quite wet at first which is nice as it goes on smootlhy, but I have heard that it can dry out fairly quickly, which isn't always a bad thing as it can give even more of a grip to the lashes but it's a point to consider.
Overall I really like this mascara! I have been enjoying using it on its own and also layered over and under other mascaras such as Loreal False Lash Telescopic and Maybelline The Falsies (two my other current favourites!). I'm not sure if I will purchase the full size as I an dubious about spending so much on a mascara when I am more than happy to use drugstore versions, but if I'm feeling spendy one day, we'll see!!
